South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster allowed some stores to reopen Monday afternoon, only two weeks after ordering them closed. Department stores, sporting goods stores and flea markets can now open there, along with stores selling furniture, books, music, flowers, clothing and accessories. They will be allowed to open at 20% capacity, or 5 people per 1,000 square feet. Beaches will reopen at noon Tuesday, McMaster said at a press conference.
In Tennessee, Gov. Bill Lee said home imprisonment will expire April 30, and "the vast majority of businesses in 89 counties" will be allowed to open again May 1.
Georgia's governor to reopen some businesses as early as Friday as other states signal similar plans. Georgia Republican Gov. Brian Kemp announced Monday that certain businesses can reopen this week. Kemp said specifically that fitness centers, bowling alleys, body art studios, barbers, hair and nail salons, and massage therapy businesses can reopen as early Friday, April 24. Theaters and restaurants will be allowed to open on Monday, April 27, while bars and night clubs will remain closed for now.
