A Washington Post report reveals that the United States is considering a plan to seize nearly 1,000 pounds (≈450 kg) of highly enriched uranium from inside Iran - a move that would push the conflict into a far more dangerous phase.
This is not a limited strike. The plan involves airlifting hundreds to thousands of troops into Iranian territory, securing nuclear sites under combat conditions, and holding ground long enough to extract the material. The operation could last several weeks, not hours, requiring continuous military presence inside a hostile environment.
The scale alone changes everything. This would mean U.S. forces operating deep inside Iran, facing resistance, potential encirclement, and constant threat from missiles, drones, and ground forces. Nuclear facilities like Isfahan and Natanz are heavily fortified and buried underground, making access slow, complex, and extremely risky.
The contradiction is stark. Public messaging has suggested the war is under control or nearing completion. Yet planning for a weeks-long ground operation with thousands of troops signals the opposite - a shift toward deeper and more direct confrontation.
