What the 90-day game really means...
Anyone who thinks this 90-day econ ceasefire with China is some kind of win for Trump is living in a dream world. It's just more concrete evidence that he's a lunatic who swam unhinged off into the deep end, and when his swimming muscles became exhausted, he waved his arms and signaled for rescue. Has he learned anything at all from this self-inflicted chaos, and been humbled to contrition? We seriously doubt it because he's not a man of modesty to begin with.

Even with this 90-day econ ceasefire, enormous damage has been done to the transactional daily U.S. economy and to the American brand as seen worldwide. Ironically, while Bessent may hope this turnabout may revive the spirits of a dazed American populace, it has the downside effect of pouring salt in the wound for Wall Street, and American Corporations. It just bounces the ball of instability and unpredictability further around the court.

Details are lacking at this time, but at first thought, one would conjecture that in Switzerland, China gave very little, if anything, to get a pause deal. Because the U.S. was the side primarily "on the spot" and needing to pull a rabbit out of the hat before public outcry swelled to a cacophonous level. The U.S. needed an excuse to eat crow and roll back the madness. The excuse was an opportunistic huddle.
And even still, the American consumer is a loser in this pause game because they will be hit with the impact of a 30 percent across-the-board tariff pressure on prices. What to watch --is what happens in the next 18 days (if a real and resolving "deal" is forthcoming, it will come fast. Because both sides need it, like yesterday). If no major agreement rapidly supplants this econ ceasefire, little has been achieved except an ambulance ride.

After all is said and puff-pieced ... this "agreement" is nothing more than an agreement to talk and negotiate. Whether further negotiation will produce a sensible resolution is yet to be seen, and as something to bet on, with Trump in the Oval, an optimistic/Pollyanna bet would be tantamount to a Hail Mary pass. DJT is no longer a rational person, and short of legally removing him from office, what he'll change his mind to next is as random as a pinball machine.
