When the 'Coalition for Life of Iowa' sought tax exemption status in 2009, the IRS sought details about the content of members' prayers. They also demanded that the group refrain both from activities that could be construed as protesting. IRS insisted that "every member of the board of directors of the Coalition sign a statement, under penalty of perjury, that they will not picket or protest or organize others to picket or protest". Soon after the unprecedented demands were made, a public interest law firm made the a challenge on behalf of the Iowa-based group. Rapidly, the IRS backed off and the group was granted tax exempt status.

Tens of millions of U.S. dollars in cash were delivered by the CIA in suitcases, backpacks and plastic shopping bags to the office of Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai for more than a decade, the New York Times says, citing current and former advisers to the Afghan leader.
The so-called "ghost money" was meant to buy influence for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) but instead fuelled corruption and empowered warlords, undermining Washington's exit strategy from Afghanistan, the newspaper quoted U.S. officials as saying.
"The biggest source of corruption in Afghanistan", one American official said, "was the United States."
The CIA declined to comment on the report and the U.S. State Department did not immediately comment. The New York Times did not...
